Jean Ann (Jeannie) Ramey co-founded Synapse Energy Economics in 1996 to fill the need for smart, independent analysis with a rigor to match or exceed that of well-funded industry stakeholders. Synapse has since become a leader in providing robust analysis of the electric power and natural gas sectors for public interest and governmental clients. Jeannie guides Synapse as it helps clients adapt to the new challenges brought by shifts toward a cleaner energy industry. A big part of her work is embedding an equity focus into all that Synapse does for its clients in addition to making sure Synapse remains a great place to work.
In her former role as Senior Vice President of Business Management, Jeannie focused on Synapse's strategic evolution to a 50+ person company. She ensured Synapse has the cohesion and systems in place to meet growing client demand and to support a flourishing company culture. Jeannie oversaw substantial changes to the leadership structure and to post-pandemic policies, while at the same time supporting new business areas such as the future of gas and incorporating equity into policy analysis.
Jeannie is also the founder of the women-run non-profit Climable. She founded Climable in 2012 to remedy the gap between good technical analysis and the plain-language messaging needed to empower broader stakeholder groups within the energy and climate space. During her tenure as Climable's Executive Director, Jeannie spearheaded a partnership between mission-driven consulting firms and the Green Justice Coalition, a local community collaboration that is now successfully pioneering community-led virtual microgrids in two of Boston’s environmental justice communities. In 2020 she won the Achievement Award at the annual New England Women in Energy and the Environment Gala. This work also led to her appointment to the 2022 Earthshot Prize Boston Host Committee.
Jeannie earned her technical knowledge working as an economist for the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and an analyst at Tellus Institute. Her skills as a matchmaker for environmental collaboration come naturally. Her passion for leveraging networks and resources in the name of a cleaner and more equitable world drives her work at Synapse and as an advisor to Climable. When she is not facilitating positive change in those roles, Jeannie can be found applying her advocacy skills to local community efforts, making fiber arts, and co-hosting the Energy Nerd Podcast.
