Energy and Health Impact Calculator

On behalf of Health Care Without Harm, ERG and Synapse teamed together to develop the Energy and Health Impact Calculator (EHIC). EHIC is an online calculator that allows hospitals and other healthcare facilities to calculate the emissions and public health impacts associated with their electricity and onsite fossil fuel consumption.

Major inputs to EHIC include outputs from custom-built modeling runs using AVERT and COBRA, as well as data from the Annual Energy Outlook and the National Emissions Inventory. Synapse developed an Excel version and the tool’s data library and methodology. ERG designed and built a web-based version and embedded it in a Drupal website with custom modules to track user data and enable Health Care Without Harm to conduct periodic data and content updates.
