Iowa Utilities Board Review of Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) Rules

Synapse provided technical support to the Iowa Environmental Council, Environmental Law and Policy Center, and Sierra Club (collectively the “Environmental Intervenors”) in the Iowa Utilities Board IRP rules review process. Synapse attended three multi-day workshops (or “Charettes”) on behalf of the Environmental Intervenors and assisted with drafting comments both before and after each Charette. Our work focused on outlining the principles and characteristics of a transparent and robust IRP process, and explaining why an IRP process improves resources planning outcomes, lowers system costs, and benefits ratepayers.
