Nova Scotia Power's Annual Load Forecast Evaluation
Synapse was hired by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board to serve as an expert for its review of Nova Scotia Power's (NSPI) annual load forecast report. As the longstanding expert in this role, Synapse evaluated NSPI's progress on issues flagged in previous review cycles, while also conducting a comprehensive review of the current report. The analysis identified several areas for improvement and included specific recommendations for NSPI. These addressed critical topics such as the treatment of Distributed Energy Resources and Demand-Side Management—both pivotal in the context of increasing electrification—as well as technical issues related to econometric methodologies, the impacts of renewable generation on the system, and the potential for rate design to mitigate peak load growth.
