Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company Rate Case
Synapse provided expert testimony to support Sierra Club before the Oklahoma Corporation Commission in the Oklahoma Gas and Electric Rate Case. Our testimony focused on evaluating the forward-looking economics of the company’s coal units at the Sooner Generating Station, Muskogee Generating Station, and River Valley Power Plant.
We found that the plants have consistently incurred hundreds of millions of costs in excess of their value and are projected to continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Over just the past five years, the company has spent over $500 million on environmental compliance projects at these plants, and will likely be required to spend more to comply with upcoming compliance projects. Further, we found that the company has conducted no modeling or economic analysis since to support the reasonableness of its plant to continue operating its coal fleet indefinitely. Testimony was filed in April 2022.
