Planning for EV Adoption in Georgia Power's 2022 IRP
On behalf of the Sierra Club, Synapse modeled the benefits of EVs and the charging infrastructure needed to support them in the state of Georgia. We found that EVs can save Georgia drivers billions of dollars in fuel while putting potential downward pressure on electric rates. Jason Frost submitted expert witness testimony on behalf of the Sierra Club, describing key findings from the analysis in the 2022 Georgia Power IRP. His testimony highlighted the need for and benefits of incorporating electric vehicle (EV) adoption and related planning into future Georgia Power IRPs. Mr. Frost recommended that the Public Utility Commission open an investigatory docket to coordinate the buildout of EV charging infrastructure in the context of Georgia’s rapidly growing EV fleet and incoming funding sources.
