Statewide Avoided Transmission and Distribution Costs for Maine

Synapse has worked with Efficiency Maine over the past decade on topics ranging from rate and bill impacts to demand response feasibility studies. In 2021, the Efficiency Maine Trust (EMT) engaged Synapse, as a subcontractor to Energy and Resource Solutions, to develop statewide avoided transmission and distribution (T&D) costs in dollars per kilowatt-year for the state of Maine.

The avoided T&D costs were calculated for behind-the-meter energy efficiency and other demand-side measures. These were developed for use in benefit-cost testing of EMT's programs and were included in the methodology and assumptions for EMT’s Triennial Plan IV for FY2020 – FY2022.
