Testimony on Requested Authorization to Overspend on Advanced Metering
Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board
Project ongoing.
In 2017, Nova Scotia Power (NS Power) applied to the Nova Scotia Utilities and Review Board (UARB) for approval of its proposed $133.2 million investment in implementing Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) throughout its service area. The UARB approved the application, based on NS Power's claim that the project would yield $38.1 million in net benefits.
On February 17, 2023, NS Power filed an application seeking authorization to overspend on the AMI project. Synapse filed evidence assessing this authorization to overspend. Specific issues addressed include adequacy of initial cost projections, treatment of contingency, overages related to information technology, and overall net benefits to ratepayers.
